Artist Interview: Solis & Sean Truby
For the people that don’t know Solis & Sean Truby. Can you introduce yourself and tell us a bit more about who you both are and what you do?
We’re a DJ & Production duo from the North of England with a big love for trance music and beer. We met around 7 years ago and instantly clicked, so thought it would be a good idea to hit the studio and have some fun. Since then we’ve released a variety of music on both our own record label Infrasonic Recordings, remixed the likes of Markus Schulz and Gareth and most recently supplied fresh music for you guys here at Flashover which we hope you’ve enjoyed!
We are halfway 2016 now, so far it has been a great year for you guys! You had many releases on Flashover already; “Sunkissed”, “Blush”, “Flashlight” , “Goldmine” (with Ron Alperin) and now “Nostalgia”. Are you working on more tracks for Flashover at the moment?
We certainly are! The releases you have mentioned really struck a chord with the FO massive which was fantastic! For those who enjoyed “Blush”, we are pleased to share that the follow up titled “Nobu” is finished and ready to go. It’s another very melodic production we hope you’ll love as much as we do. Other than that we’re working on our first vocal track for the label, aswell as some very interesting collaborations in the pipeline, so it’s an exciting time for both ourselves and the record label as a whole.
Are there plans for an album release or an EP in the future?
That would be telling 😛
If you work on a track, what gives you inspiration?
Live sets are a such a great inspiration! It’s one thing to make a great track, but to make a track that people want to dance to, chant to or indeed sing along to is the main reason we do what we do!
Are there any producers / artists that really inspire you as well?
So many to name but a few are: Markus Schulz, Gareth Emery, Ferry Corsten, Sean Tyas, John O’Callaghan + lots more!
How long do you usually work on a production / remix?
We usually spend a few weeks to a few months on a remix – not constant work of course. It’s nice to try a variety of different ideas down initially and see what fits before taking some time out to consider what vibe we’re going to go for.
Speaking of remixes, are there any new remixes coming out soon?
We’re very picky with what remixes we do firstly. We just wanted to put that out there, just incase people are wondering why we don’t remix as much as some artists. For us it’s not only a case of how much we love the track, but more importantly if we can actually improve on the original mix or give people a cool alternative that can hold its own in the market place. One track we did feel we could add a fresh approach to is Andy Moor’s ‘She Moves’ with the beautiful vocals of Carrie Skipper which we took on a few months ago and should see the light of day this Winter.
Is there a track that you would love to remix, classic or new?
Such a hard question to answer, however what we will say is for those who enjoyed our take on Mauro Picotto’s ‘Lizard’, we have another surprise up our sleeves which we would like to finish before ADE.
Where can we see you guys the next few months? Any cool parties / festivals?
We’re in Amsterdam twice in as many months alongside Ferry Corsten both times at Beach Club Fuel on September 3rd, then again 20th October at Amsterdam Dance Event at Club Panama. We’re also in Ibiza for a mini break in September with some good friends so it should be a fun few months!
What kind of music do you guys listen to in your spare time?
As well as trance we also like progressive house (in the traditional sense), deep house, techno, and various other sub-genres, but also certain bands and acts are quite cool to listen to when there’s festivals on the tele etc
What does your studio look like? And what do you guys use?
We use FL Studio plus various plugins such as Spire, Sylenth1, Nexus and many more!
What can we expect from you in the near future?
More big records, cool collaborations and 100% more vocal tracks as it’s something we are keen to push much harder.
What is your ultimate geek / nerd guilty pleasure? A gadget, a movie or something else?
It’s all about the laptop!
Anything you would love to see happening in the scene?
The S&ST brand continuing to grow and one day becoming the next big thing, haha 😉
