Coburn are Pete Martin and Tim Healey. Between them they write, perform and record all that is Coburn. They share guitar, bass, drums, keyboards, vocals, programming and production right down the middle in their north London studio.
Sharing their name with the recently deceased Hollywood legend James Coburn, 2003 saw Tim and Pete becoming increasingly frustrated by the limitations of club music production where they have both enjoyed critical and commercial acclaim.
So they locked themselves away in semi-obscurity until they had harnessed a new sound. And a very fresh and phat sound it is too.
By intravenously plugging themselves into their massive record collection
they injected their knowledge of dance beats and grooves straight into their love of ‘real songs’ and live instrumentation.
The result is Coburn, a hulking monster of a sound designed to blow the
listener away both live and at home. Parallels have already being drawn with bands as wide-ranging as Air, Iggy Pop, Spacemen 3 and the Pixies.
From the hypnotic seduction of ‘Submit’ to the super-sonic rock of ‘Levitate Me’, from the tex-mex lament of ‘Wake Up’ to the sleazy electro pop-rock of ‘I Get My Kicks’ Coburn are about sonic emotions. They fuse live guitars and vocals with contemporary dance beats and retro-electronic sounds.
Coburn are at once ultimately intimate and universal, delicate and yet heavy as sin. A beacon of light in the bland band wilderness of the millennium.
